Chapter 11- The Best Damn Thing
“What if they don’t like me?” Keira panicked as she sat in the passenger’s seat of Orlando’s SUV.
“Of course they’ll like you,” Orlando said, craning his neck to make sure they weren’t being tailed by paparazzi. Two months they had been dating, and that meant two months of nonstop paparazzi.
He turned back to Keira. Her expression was still worried. “Keir, they’ll love you.”
“How do you know?” she whispered.
He took her hand. “Because I love you.”
She smiled. That was a strong argument.
......................*......................
Half an hour later, the SUV pulled into a secluded lakeside manor.
“This is it,” Orlando announced, opening his car door. “We’re here.”
Keira sighed. Time to meet his family. His entire family.
She got out of the car and followed him to the back of the house.
“Welcome To The 22nd Annual Family Reunion!” a banner draped across two trees read.
“Orlando!” A woman three or four years his senior with dark curly hair stepped forward and embraced him.
“Sam!” he replied, returning the embrace. “It’s good to see you!”
“You too,” his sister replied. She turned to Keira.
“Keira!” she said. “I nearly wept with joy when I heard that you were Orlandi’s new girl! No one’s better for him.”
Keira blushed at the sincerity in Sam’s voice. “Thanks, Sam. “It’s really nice to see you again.”
“UNCLE LANDO!” A little blonde bullet streamed right towards him.
“SOPHIE!” Orlando yelled back, picking up the little girl and tossing her into the air.
She giggled as he gently set her down. “How’s my little angel?”
“I’m not an angel, I’m a princess,” Sophie pouted.
Orlando smiled. “Of course you are, sweetheart.” Sophie grinned back. “Do you remember Keira?” he asked, pointing to his girlfriend.
Sophie nodded, her eyes wide. “Are you getting married to Uncle Lando?” she blurted.
Keira laughed, racking her brain for an answer. “Yes, no, I don’t really know,” she said. Sophie looked confused. “Someday,” Keira decided. Sophie looked satisfied with this answer.
Sophie then turned her attention back to her uncle. “Do you loooooooove her?” she asked, drawing out the word “love.”
Orlando grinned. “Yeah, I do.”
“EWWWWW!” said Sophie in disgust.
“You won’t be thinking that in a couple of years,” Orlando said knowingly. “One day you’ll find your Prince Charming, along with a few losers that you think are great, but actually quite weird, disgusting, or pervish.”
Sophie pondered the meaning of “pervish” for a moment before shaking her head. “Uh-uh! Boys have cooties!”
Orlando shurgged. “You’ll get over that eventually.”
Sophie turned her attention back to Keira. “Is Uncle Lando your Prince Charmin’?” she asked.
Keira pretended to become breathless. “Why, yes. Yes he is.” Orlando leaned in and kissed her lightly on the lips.
“EWWWWW!” said Sophie yet again. She turned and scampered off to attend to her duties as a five-year-old: look cute and cause mischief.
Sam laughed. “Wow, Or. You really love her, huh?”
He nodded and put his arm around Keira’s tiny waist. “Yeah, I really do.”
An awkward silence followed this remark.
Sam shattered the silence by saying, “Well, I better go find my darling daughter!” She set off in search of Sophie, following obvioud clues as to the where-abouts of her child.
Orlando grabbed keira’s hand. He then proceeded to lead her to a large picnic table laden with food.
Before she knew what was happening, Keira was pulled into a gut-wrenching hug.
“Keira!” Sonia Bloom squealed. “Welcome to the family.”
“Mum,” Orlando said, rolling his eyes. “We’ve already discussed this with Sophie. We’re not married yet.”
Sonia sighed and let go of Keira. “She’s still part of the family, even if she’s not legally part of the family. Besides,” she went on, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “I hear you two are already living together.”
Orlando and Keira shared a startled glance. “Who told you that?” he asked, trying to keep his voice calm.
Sonia smiled. “Your merry little friend likes to keep me updated, even if you don’t.”
Keira was confused, but Orlando obviously got the message. “Dom,” he muttered.
Oh! Keira’s lightbulb went off in her head. Dominic Monaghan’s name in Lord of the Rings was Merry! Duh! And I call myself a fan?
Dom had been over for dinner just last week at their new apartment in downtown London.
“You guys had better hurry up!” Sonia said, jerking Keira from her thoughts. “The games are about to begin!”
Keira gulped as Orlando grabbed her hand. Games? This was way more than she had bargained for! -------------------------------------------------------
whats gonna happen next??
i honestly dont know. it might be a little while til the next update at this rate, lol.
til next time,
Chel

Chapter 12- Let’s Get It Started
[[Part 1]]
“And so, first is the football tournament!” Orlando’s Grandma Effie announced into the microphone. “Now, this game is for the younger generation, so I, among others, will be a spectator. Now you young ’uns”---she looked in the general Orlando and Keira---“will go over there”---she pointed to a large open space where two soccer goals stood---“and wait until I arrive to split you into teams. Go on now! Shoo!”
Orlando and Keira meandered over to the soccer field where about eight other individuals stood.
Orlando introduced her to them. “This is my cousin, Ted,” he said, gesturing to a thirty-something year-old man with thick spectacles and large buck teeth.
“My cousin, Selia.” She shook hands with his twenty-five year-old cousin who had curly blonde hair, teeth that were too straight, and a smile that was fake. Keira strongly suspected that her nose was fake too, but she didn’t say so aloud.
“I’m delighted to meet you,” Selia said in a falsely sweet voice. “I’m a big fan!”
Keira ignored Selia and gave Sam, who was standing next to her, a little wave.
Orlando didn’t have to introduce his next cousin; she beat him to the punch.
“I’m Jen!” she said brightly, squeezing Keira’s hand so hard it hurt. “But mostly people just call me ‘Selia’s older sister.’” She laughed at her own joke. “Me husband, Chris,” she said, gesturing to the tall, dark-haired man next to her. “I’ve four kids.”
Keira gasped. “Wow! Jen, you don’t look a day over thirty!”
Jen smiled. “I’m twenty-nine. Married at twenty. Had me first at twenty-one. This’s Gemini,” she said, pointing to a miniature version of herself next to her. She had the same big blue eyes, the same curly blonde hair. “She’s shy,” Jen said in response to Gemini’s silence. “Big fan of yours, she is. Loves that Beckham movie you did. She’s quite the footballer herself.” Keira smiled at the eight-year-old, who smiled shyly back.
Jen pointed to three small children on the sidelines. “That’s me son Adrien; he’s six; me daughter Brittania; she’s four, and me son Derin. He’s only two.”
Keira smiled, imagining what her future children would be like. She then joined Orlando, who talking to a tall man with the same curly blonde hair as Selia and Jen.
“Keir, this is Drew,” Orlando said. “He’s my age, and when we were young, we were inseparable.”
“Nice to meet you,” Keira said, politely shaking his hand.
“And I, you,” Drew replied.
“This is his wife, Gwynn,” Orlando continued, gesturing to the pale, petite woman next to Drew. She had piercing green eyes and dark, flowing hair.
“They got married last summer,” Orlando explained.
Keira nodded.
“I see you’ve met my sisters,” Drew said darkly. “What do you think of them?”
“Well, Jen seems really nice,” Keira began awkwardly.
“And Selia?” Drew pressed.
“She seems... so... so... fake,” Keira confessed.
Drew, Orlando, and Gwynn laughed. “She is,” Drew said. “She’s extremely competitive; all she wants from life is to win. She has no need for friendship. All she wants is to be worshipped. “
“That’s horrible!” Keira gasped.
“Sad, really,” Gwynn said. Her voice was friendly and light. “She likes no one and enjoys being envied by some, adored by many, and hated by others. The only person she cares about is Drew’s mum.” She pointed to an elderly looking lady with a purple hat, sitting on the sidelines.
“Did your mum favor Selia?” Keira asked Drew.
“Oh yeah,” he replied. “Sweet, darling Selia. Precious Selia. Talented Selia. When Jen was valedictorian at her graduation, Mum wasn’t even there. Selia had a prior commitment singing at some county fair. So I went to hear my little sister’s speech and see her graduate with honors.”
“How awful!” Keira said.
Before Drew could reply, Grandma Effie, who had hobbled into the middle of the field, cut him off.
“Enough chitchat!” she said shrilly. “Let’s find us some teams!” -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part 2 up tomorrow [hopefully!] hope you enjoy it!!

okay lets get one thing straight- i know nothing except for the basic rules of soccer. so i may have gotten some things wrong.
Chapter 12- Let's Get It Started
[[Part 2]]
She quickly split them up, five on five. The teams looked like this: TEAM ONE: Orlando, Ted, Drew, Gemini, and Selia. TEAM TWO: Jen, Chris, Gwynn, Sam, and Keira.
“Nice!” said Gwynn, giving Keira a high five. “You’re good, right?”
Keira shrugged. “I guess.”
“She’s being modest,” said Orlando, who had been listening. “You saw her in Bend It Like Beckham?”
“So, that was really you?” Gwynn asked, eyes wide. “Not a soccer double or something?”
Keira smiled. “It was mostly me.”
“YES!” Gwynn yelled, thrusting her fist into the air. In an undertone that only Keira could hear, she added, “Let’s kick some Selia ass!”
Keira giggled and nodded to show she understood.
Grandma Effie blew a whistle to get their attention.
“Rules!” she barked. “First! First to 3 wins. Second! Keira, you’re our guest. You kick off. Third! No fouls. Play nice. Remember, children are watching. Fourth! Have fun.” She gave Keira a warm wink, then tossed the soccer ball to her.
Keira set the ball down in the precise middle of the field. She stepped a few feet back and prepared for the whistle.
Grandma Effie gave the whistle a sharp blast. Keira glanced up and saw that Selia was playing goalie. Perfect!, she thought as she charged the ball. She kicked it hard to her left, straight to Gwynn.
Next thing Keira knew, she was picked up into the air.
“No fair, Bloom!” she laughed as he threw her over his shoulder and carried her downfield.
Grandma Effie’s whistle pierced the air once more.
“Orlando!” she called exasperatedly. “That qualifies as a ‘foul.’ Put Keira down and we will continue on my whistle.”
Keira heard Orlando sigh as he set her down.
“Kiss?” he asked.
“Kiss,” she replied as she gave him a quick peck on the lips.
“Penalty kick to Keira,” said Grandma Effie.
Jen put the ball in position for Keira. The whistle sounded. Keira kicked the ball hard to the far left corner of the net.
To Keira’s surprise, Selia blocked it easily. Keira was impressed; Selia didn’t seem like the athletic type.
Keira quickly forgot about her shock as the ball hurtled towards her. Keira hit it with her forehead. It arched into the air, over Selia’s reaching arms, and into the net.
“GOAL!” shouted Chris, giving Keira a pat on the back.
“SWITCH!” yelled Selia angrily. “SOMEBODY SWITCH ME!”
Ted obediently stepped to the net, swapping positions with his cousin.
“LET’S KICK SOME HOLLYWOOD ASS!” she roared.
“Language, Selia!” Grandma Effie shouted from the sidelines.
“Sorry, Gran!” Selia said sweetly, putting her angel act back on.
Grandma Effie rolled her eyes and blew her whistle.
Selia charged the ball and kicked it with the heat of a thousand suns. She quickly caught up to it and dribbled it downfield.
“Selia! I’m open!” Drew hollered to his sister. She ignored him.
Keira sighed. It was time to teach Selia the value of teamwork. She moved up the field and blocked Selia’s way. When she tried to go around her, Keira quickly stole the ball and passed it hard downfield to Gwynn, who was open.
Gwynn kicked the ball into the far left corner of the net, which Ted wasn’t guarding.
“GOAL!” Keira yelled jubilantly.
“SH*T!” cried Selia.
“Selia!” Grandma Effie said warningly.
“What the hell was that?” Orlando demanded angrily. “Drew was wide open!”
“Aunt Selia, you’re being an a**hole,” said little Gemini. “This isn’t all about you, you know.”
Everyone stared open-mouthed at the eight-year-old.
“What,” said Selia dangerously, “did you just call me?”
“You heard me,” said Gemini defiantly. “Now, let’s get back to playing football. And do try and pass, Auntie. Kay?”
Selia gaped openly as her niece turned and walked back to her position.
Grandma Effie blew the whistle. Gemini kicked the ball--- right to Keira.
Keira was about to kick it back to her when Gemini shook her head. Keira could have laughed. Not even Selia’s teammates wanted her to win!
Keira kicked it hard towards her goal halfway across the field. It zoomed by Ted’s outstretched hands and landed in the goal.
“YES!” Keira cried. Gwynn and Jen reached her and hugged her so hard she could barely breathe.
Sophie ran onto the field into the open arms of her mother. Sam jumped up and down while Sophie shouted, “Yay! Yay! Yay!”
“F*CK!” yelled Selia as she collapsed onto the field and burst into tears.
“What does f*ck mean?” Sophie asked Sam curiously, who stared at her daughter, too shocked for words.
“Brilliant!” shouted Orlando as he lifted her into the air. “Fantastic, Keir!”
Keira mentally added the score in her head: Keira= 1. Selia= 0. ----------------------------------------------------------
