Source: enjoyment.independent.co.uk/film/news/article356835.eceI read this book two years ago for my english literature class and i loved it!!. But I think Keira si too beautiful to play that part... at least in a movie... on stage it may be different

She said she always wanted to do theatre. I don't know what she'll do. But I'm sure she'll do excellent if she does start to do theatre.

It has been confirmed from numerous sources that she won't be in the theatre production.
this article might also explain why not
British actress KEIRA KNIGHTLEY auditioned for the lead female role in opera blockbuster THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, only to be told by casting directors "you can't sing".
The 20-year-old beauty labels the audition the "singularly most embarrassing experience of my entire life" and was relieved when they offered the role of CHRISTINE to trained soprano EMMY ROSSUM.
Knightley says, "I absolutely knew I couldn't sing it. But I went in, and they were like, 'No, no, anybody can sing. Just try it out.'
"And I sang and the guy went, 'You really can't sing, can you?'' (FemaleFirst.co.uk)
its nice to know she's not completely perfect

Ha that's funny, but I feel so sorry for Keira! I can't sing either so I'm not the one to be talking!

'Pride and Prejudice' actress Keira Knightley is desperate to do theatre.
However, the star - whose mother is playwright Sharman MacDonald - admits she is too scared to go for a stage role because she has failed auditions in the past.
She confessed to Britain's Times magazine: "I'm desperate to do theatre. The trouble is, I never got offered anything. I used to go up for auditions and never get them. The last one was when I was 15-years-old and I completely blew it.
"It's a hard transition. And the more successful I get in films, the more afraid I become."
Knightley - who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the big screen adaptation of the Jane Aisten novel - says she would also love to star in one of her mother's plays - but she thinks it would be too "corny".
She revealed: "I'd love to be in one of mother's plays, for sentimental reasons and because she's a good writer, but that would be a bit corny for my first outing."
