Alright, sorry for the confusion. That was the second to last post. Now, before I continue, I want to thank all of you who have stuck with me through unexplained absences and computer problems, forgetfullness and just sheer laziness. You have all been my inspiration and I dedicate this final chapter to all of you! Now, with no further rambling from me, here is the conclusion of Beautiful Disaster
Well I bet that I was the last person you’d expect to hear from. The three people who have been telling you this story all along are otherwise engaged, so they left me, Jill, with this final chapter in our very crazy lives.
It was already wearing on two in the afternoon and people were beginning to get restless. Orlando stood before a mirror and adjusted his black bow tie for the tenth time. He stopped, feeling someone tug on his tuxedo pant leg. Turning, he looked down to see a little girl with long golden curls and big brown eyes. With a smile, he scooped her up. “How did you get in here?”
She shrugged, laying her head on his shoulder. “I just walked.”
Orlando laughed softly. “You just walked, eh? Shouldn’t you be getting ready with your basket of flower petals? Where’s your mother?”
“I don’t know.”
Heath came into the little room, also dressed in a black tuxedo. “Hey there, munchkin. What are you doing here?”
“Daddy!’ She reached for Heath and he took her, giving her a gentle hug. “I’m hungry.”
“Me too,” Heath confessed softly. “Why don’t you run back to your mum so we can get this show on the road. Then we can all get something good to eat.”
“Will there be cake?”
“Yes,” he laughed. “There will be cake.” He set her down and helped her fix her long white dress. “Okay, off with you now.”
She ran from the little room and made her way to a set of stairs that would lead her down into a basement room that was almost like a classroom. “Gabby, there you are!” She looked up as she saw me coming from the bathroom. “I thought you ran away.”
“I went to find Daddy.” She put her little hand in mine and we went into a room that was full of chaos.
“I can’t get it to sit right,” Keira cried.
“Well stop moving your head! I’m trying to fix it!”
I picked up my three year old daughter and we watched Keira, Ashley, and Mary-Kate run about the room. “Your dress is pretty, Mummy.”
Smiling, I kissed her soft little cheek. “Thank you, Muffin. Your dress is very pretty too. And I see you have pretty crystals in your hair.”
She nodded. “Nana did it.”
“Does Nana still have your baby brother?”
“Yeah, he’s sleeping.”
“Good.”
“Okay.” Gabby and I looked as Keira stood up. I caught my breath. “Oh, Kiki…”
“I can’t breathe.”
“Is it too tight?” Mary-Kate asked. She set to adjusting the back of the dress, but Keira shook her head.
“No, I mean I can’t breathe because I’m having an anxiety attack.”
“Relax.” I set Gabby down and went to adjust the long silk veil that was sitting atop a fountain of curls at the back of her head. “You have nothing to worry about. This is something you have been waiting for.”
“I know.” She put her hands on her stomach, trying to even out her breathing. “But it will be my luck to trip and fall as I walk down the isle.”
“Well everyone’s already seen a bride trip on her wedding day,” I reminded her with a laugh. “Remember me? I dropped my bouquet and everything. Do something more creative!”
“I’m still in awe of you, Jill. How did you get back into shape so fast? You just had your baby two months ago and you look fabulous! You’ll have to help me look like that when this is all said and done.”
I grinned, putting my hands on my hips. “Kiki, you’re not even showing yet and you’re already worried about losing weight after?”
“Sorry I’m late!” All of us turned to see Arianna rushing into the room with a plastic bag in her hand. She set it down and offered a small smile to Keira. “You look beautiful.”
In a perfect world, all of us would be the best of friends who would have slumber parties, talk about intimate things and know each others deepest, darkest secrets. But his never was, and never will be a perfect world. To say Keira and Arianna were friends now would be fair, but they weren’t very close friends. It had taken a long time for them to get to the point of being able to be in the same room with one another. It took even longer for Orlando and Jeremy to admit that both of them were hurting, and not speaking to each other would never fix anything. After Arianna had little Christopher, none of them could really stay all that mad at each other. Jeremy was excited to hold his son for the first time, and wanted to share the joy with his brother. After falling immediately in love with his nephew, he told Keira they couldn’t wait anymore. They had to start a family right away.
“Lateness is expected for a wedding,” I smiled. As I looked around, I noticed not all of us were present. “Okay, there are four of us out of eight. Where are the other girls?”
“In the restroom fixing makeup.” Ashley told us. Usually the bride is the one to insist upon a big wedding party, but Orlando had such a hard time deciding who would be his groomsmen, he decided to keep all eight he had initially thought of.
“We’re all here!” called someone with an English accent. Parminder Nagra, Keira’s co-star in Bend it Like Beckham, came into the room with Natalie Portman close behind her, and two of Keira’s friends from home, Cassie and Kate.
“Okay, we have one more thing to do before you take the plunge, Kiki.” Everyone laughed at my choice of wording. I went to a bag that I had set down in the corner and pulled out a small white box. I held it between both of my hands as I walked back over to Keira. “Something old,” I said softly as I handed her the box. She took it and opened it with a soft gasp. “They were my great grandmothers.”
With shaking fingers, she held up one of the pearl drop earrings. “Jill…you wore these in your wedding. They belong in your family.”
I smile softly and hugged her. “You’re in the family now, Kiki. You should wear them.” She sniffled and I laughed as I helped her put them on. Don’t cry yet. We’ve still got some more things for you.”
“Yeah,” chimed Mary-Kate. “We’ve got the something new.”
“Since it was from two of us, we thought you should get two things,” Ashley laughed. She gave her gift to Keira first, a diamond bracelet, then Mary-Kate gave hers.
“Oh my goodness…” It was a diamond choker with leaflet pendant designs. Mary-Kate clasped it around Keira’s neck and smiled. It fit her perfectly. “I…I don’t know what to say. Thank you both so much.”
“Wait! I have something borrowed!” Parminder offered her a small lace handkerchief “You have to give this back,” she reminded with a smile
Keira laughed. “I will, I promise.”
“And something blue,” said Natalie, sounding slightly mischievous. She held up a pale blue garter belt and swung it around on her finger. “I’m sure Orlando will enjoy taking this off of you later.”
