There was still an hour until the library closed, but the isles and nearly every table was empty. Keegan held a small piece of yellow paper and scanned the spines of a shelf near to the ground. Finding the book she wanted, she snatched it and added it to the three already in her arms. Walking back out into the lounging area, she set the books on a table and sat down. Her open notebook and pens already littered her workspace, and she sighed. A headache was teasing her with the promise of oncoming pain, and homework wasn’t something she really wanted to do at the moment. She pushed her hair behind her ears and stood up, going back to the computer at the side of the room. Sitting down, she flexed her fingers over the keys, then halted. “What was the name of that program?” she muttered. “Excuse me?” A fellow student looked at her from behind the checkout desk. “Oh,” she blushed. “Nothing. I was just talking to myself.” He gave her a funny look, then went back to whatever it was he had been reading. Feeling quite ridiculous, she turned back to the computer screen…and stared at it for some time. “Tell me something,” came a soft British accent at her shoulder. “If you stare at the screen long enough, does it read your mind and find what you’re looking for without you having to lift a finger?”
Keegan turned around to see Clay and a smile spread across her lips. “Well hello. What are you doing in the library on a Friday night?”
He adjusted the pile of books he was carrying and gave her a half smile. “I should ask the same thing of you.” He glanced at the screen. “Need some help?”
Pulling her brows together, she turned back to the computer. “I’m trying to find some information, but I’m not quite sure where to begin.”
“Well, let me just go put these books down and I’ll come back and try and help you. Sound good?” She nodded and watched him walk to the counter. He still wore that same long black coat and wire rimmed glasses. Her brown eyes went over the entire length of his body, and when he turned to catch her staring, she turned quickly back to the computer, a deep blush staining her cheeks. “Now then,” he said once he pulled up a chair beside her. “Tell me a bit about what it is you’re looking for.”
Keegan chewed on her bottom lip. “Well, it’s about a mirror. I saw this program last night and wanted to know more about it.”
“Do you remember what station it was on.”
“The History one?”
Smirking, Clay typed “History Channel” into the search box. “That sounded more like a question than an actual answer.”
“I’m not sure what station it was on, to be honest with you.”
“That’s alright,” he answered, scrolling down the page that popped up. “This will give us a place to start with anyway.” Suddenly the lights flickered and all power went out. A rumble shook the building.
“CUT! Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me!” Gary jumped out of his chair. “Didn’t anyone hook up the generators? Come on people, we don’t have a lot of time here!” Gary barked out orders and people scattered. “Keira, Orlando, you two just stay there. We’ll get this thing up and running in no time.”
A brilliant flash of light lit up the entire room, and Keira shuddered as everything shook. “You alright?” Orlando asked softly. He took her hand and squeezed it. She nodded. “I don’t like thunderstorms.”
“I know love,” he soothed. “Just try to relax. It’ll be over soon.” Almost an hour later, the lights came back on with an electrical buzz and Gary hopped back behind the cameras.. “Alright, good to go. Orlando, take it from ‘That’s alright’…and, ACTION!” Clay scanned the screen of the computer, biting his lip. Keegan tried to suppress a smile, and when it didn’t work, she ducked her head to hide her laughter.
“CUT!”
“Sorry,” Orlando apologized though his own chuckling. “I forgot my line.” He was handed a script to scan. “Right,” he said after a moment. “Right. Got it. Sorry.” He looked around. “Sorry. Let’s go.”
“ACTION!”
“That’s alright,” he answered, scrolling down the page that popped up. “This will give us a place to start with anyway.” Keegan read over the program listing, a frown creasing her brow. “See anything that looks close to it?”
She shook her head. “No…wait! There, that could be it.” He moved the mouse to click on the link she had pointed out, and waited as a new paged popped up. “Behind the Broken Mirror,” she read softly. “This has to be it.”
“Well here, switch places with me so you can read this then.” They switched seats and Keegan busied herself with the reading. “Is that it?”
She nodded, but a look of disappointment settled on her face. “It doesn’t give me much information, though.” She scrolled down to the bottom and clicked on another link. “Oh, this helps some.” A list of recommended reading material about the mirror came up, and she swiftly wrote down the titles. “Let me,” Clay offered. “You keep searching, now that you know what you’re looking for, and I’ll see if any of the books are here.” She nodded and continued to search the internet while Clay left to find her books. She lost track of time, somehow, and was startled when she was told the library was closing. “Right,” she said softly. “Sorry, I didn’t notice the time.” She logged off of the internet and stood, looking around for Clay. “Have you seen my friend?” The librarian shook his head. “You haven’t seen him in here?”
“You’re the only student in here. Sorry.” Keegan frowned and gathered her things. As she pushed the door open to leave, she glanced over her shoulder one more time to try and find Clay. But all she saw was an empty library, save the librarian who was shutting off all of the computers. “Goodnight,” he called impatiently. She gave him a small smile, then began the trek back to her room.

*hugs* Thanks dahling!
It was quite dark out, and the wind that tugged at her hair was colder than she remembered it being earlier. She hugged her books to her, keeping her shoulders hunched to try and stay warm. When she got back to her room, Paige looked up from the magazine she was reading. “Hey.”
“Hey.” Noticing the faraway look on Keegan’s face, Paige watched her as she sat. “Everything alright?”
Keegan bit her lip and looked at her best friend. “I don’t know. Um, I was in the library and, remember that bloke from downstairs?”
“The sexy Brit? Yeah.”
“Well, long story short, he was helping me look something up and went to go see about some books for me, but he disappeared. I mean, completely. I don’t think the librarian even saw him leave.”
“Well that was kinda rude.”
“Isn’t that strange?”
“Did you check his room?”
“No.”
Paige sat up and slid her slippers on. “Come on then.”
“Where?”
“To see if he’s in his room.”
“No!” Keegan crossed her legs, making it obvious that she was quite set on not going anywhere. Paige shrugged, undeterred. “Fine then. I’ll go.”
“No, Paige!” But she had already closed the door behind her. Her slippers made a soft whispering on the stairs as she made her way to the first floor. Once down by the lobby, she checked for his name on a mailbox to find his room number. Seeing his room was just down the hallway, Paige went directly to his room and knocked. The door opened and Clay stood there, looking rather surprised at having company. He pushed his glasses up his nose. “Um, hello.”
“Hi. Remember me?”
Clay blinked, titling his head slightly. “Um, yes I believe I met you the other night. I’m sorry, I don’t remember your name though.”
“It’s Paige. I’m Keegan’s roommate.”
He nodded slowly. “Ah Keegan. Yes, I do remember now.”
Paige pushed her raspberry hair behind her ears and crossed her arms. “Yeah, do you remember leaving her at the library tonight?”
“Excuse me?”
“I just thought it was a bit rude to leave without telling her.”
A frown creased his brow. “I wasn’t in the library tonight.”
Blinking, Paige raised an eyebrow. “No, Keegan told me that you were helping her look up something and then disappeared on her. I don’t think she’d lie to me.”
With a slight shake of his head, Clay extended his arm. “Do you want to come in?”
“No thank you.”
He sighed. “I am terribly sorry to tell you this, Paige. But if someone was with Keegan at the library, it certainly wasn’t me. I was just finishing up with a study group when you knocked, as you can see.” Peeking in the room, Paige saw some people sitting on the floor, open books scattered about. “They can vouch for my whereabouts for the last two hours, if need be Officer.”
Smirking, Paige was quite confused. “I’m sorry about that. Maybe she meant another Clay.”
“Maybe.”
“Um…sorry about intruding.” She walked slowly away. “See ya around.”
He nodded, pushing his glasses up again. “See ya.”
Keegan was scribbling away furiously in her notebook when Paige got back to the room. When the door closed, she put her pen down and looked up. “Was he there?”
“He was there.” Paige sat on her bed, her thin brows drawn together. “Keeg, are you sure it was him that helped you in the library?”
Keegan laughed a little. “Yeah.”
“He said he wasn’t there.”
She put the cap on her pen and looked at Paige. “He may have said he wasn’t there, but he was there.”
“He has a study group in his room and he said that’s where they’ve all been for the last two hours. Are you sure it wasn‘t someone else?”
Sitting up, Keegan swung her legs over the side of the bed to dangle in the air. “Paige, he sat right next to me, had a conversation with me. My sanity may be questionable from time to time, but I think I would know if it was him I was talking to or not.”
Paige frowned and chewed on her bottom lip. “That’s really weird.”
“Whatever, “Keegan shrugged. “Just another person who doesn’t want to admit they were seen with me. That’s fine.” She jumped to the floor and grabbed a blue shower caddy from the top of her dresser. “I’m jumping in the shower.”
Paige nodded, then got up to wrap her arms around Keegan. “You know,” Paige said. “If you were the only friend I had, I would be lucky.” With a small smile, Keegan kissed the top of her friend’s head. “Thanks, Paige.”
“Welcome. Hey, um, I might not be here when you get out. I need to run down to see Haylie.” She smirked. “You know if I don’t check in with my probation officer at least once a week, she’ll threaten me with quality time.”
“Then by all means,” Keegan chuckled, slipping on her slippers. “Go see your evil twin.”
“You know, I bet her roommate says the same about me.”
“Somehow, I highly doubt that.”
lol, I just love you, MJ
“I can’t find my black mini anywhere!” Haylie tore through the clothes that were strewn about the room for the third time. “If I can’t find it soon, I’m going to scream.”
“Let me help you then,” her quiet, reserved roommate said. “It’s already seven and I haven’t even taken a shower.” Stamping her feet, Haylie growled. “If I’m late, I swear it will be the end of the semester for me. I’ll never be able to show my face around campus again.”
“What is it you’re going to?”
Haylie sighed with exasperation. “The movies, remember? That’s only, like, the fiftieth time I’ve told you.”
There was a knock at the door and her roommate stood eagerly to answer the call. Relieved, she opened the door to find Paige on the other side. “Hey Morgan. Is my sister here?” But the half sane look on the poor girls face was all the answer she needed. Paige walked into the room only to be assaulted by a white knit sweater. “Hey!”
Haylie stood up from her crouched position on the floor, pushing her platinum hair behind her ears. “Hey Paige, sorry.” The twins swapped kisses on the cheek, Haylie’s tone instantly softening. “I can’t find my black mini.”
“Want me to help?”
“Would you?”
Paige chuckled. “Sure.” No matter how rotten and evil Haylie might be to everyone around her, Paige often found the partially human side of her twin and seemed to make her almost bearable to be around. “This one?” She held up a stretchy short black skirt with a pink flower on the side.
Sighing with relief, Haylie smiled and embraced her. “You are a lifesaver, you know that?”
“I know.”
“Oh, I’m glad you’re here.” Grabbing a towel, Haylie draped it over her arm. “What are you doing tomorrow?”
“Keegan and I are going to go check out that new thrift store that’s opening in town. Haylie made a face. “Why? What are you up to?”
“Nothing,” she whined. “I was hoping to do something fun with my favorite sister.”
Paige laughed. “Your only sister. Why don’t you come with? Maybe you and Keegan could try being civil to each other, maybe even pretend to get a long for my sake.”
“Ew, to a thrift store? And as if to the whole Keegan thing. I know she tells you how rotten I am, but does she ever mention how mean she is to me? I doubt it!” Lifting her nose in the air, she turned to the door. “Never mind then. I’ll find something to do myself. Have fun tomorrow with your weirdo roommate.” With that, she left Paige alone with Morgan. “I love my sister,” Paige said after a moment of staring at the door. She turned to look at Morgan. “I mean, I really can’t get out of that, right?”
Morgan smiled and shook her head. “I think it’s a law, or something.”
“I wonder what the penalty would be for breaking that law…”

*bites her lip and looks nervously around* I have some bad news ladies... My mum messed up my computer somehow and lost everything I had for this story. Honestly, I don't know how she did it but my mother has a knack for finding interesting and unique ways of slowly killing me. Anyway, I had a lot written that hasn't been posted, way too much to start over. So please don't kill me, and I'm sorry. But I have to put this one in the can...
