ROFL. You crack me up. Um, sorry if I am going to fast. I'm trying to catch up so I can have everything here and not worry about going to 80 different places to update. Let me know if I'm going too fast.
“So then I was like, ‘yeah well, I could tell you a thing or two but every time I try and put my two cents in, you talk over me and it’s like I’m not even here.”
“Your boyfriend talks more than you do?” Jill looked at me blankly. “That is frightening.”
“So then he was like…” I threw a pea at her. It hit her between the eyes, then fell into her coffee. “Eew! Gross! What the heck was that for?” She took a spoon and fished the pea out, then flung it back at me, giggling. It sailed behind me, resting on an empty table. “How can you eat if all you do is talk?” Defiant and smiling, she stuck her fork in her salad, popped it in her mouth and chewed. “See? Isn’t food a good thing?”
“Shut up,” she giggled. I took another small taste of my chicken noodle soup. “Kiki, you eat like a bird. No wonder you’re so skinny.”
I made a face. “I still don’t feel well. You know I pig out. We both pig out.”
Jill nodded. “All the time sister.”
Feeling eyes on me, I turned to look around the small eatery we sat in. It was just my paranoia, as I soon saw that no one was looking at me at all, but involved in their own conversations. “Are you nervous about tomorrow night?”
I looked back at Jill. “Tomorrow night?” She widened her eyes at me. “Right! The premier!” I shrugged and absently stirred my soup. “No, not really. What’s there to be nervous about?” Rudely interrupting, my cell phone rang. I apologized to Jill and dug it out of my purse. “Hello?”
“Are you busy?”
“I’m actually having lunch with your sister right now.”
“Ah, tell her I said hi.”
“Orlando says hello.” She gave a little wave and went on eating. “She said hello. Can I help you with something?”
“Um…well, listen. How are you getting down there tomorrow, and what time had you planned on leaving?”
I blinked. “Flying. What time, I’m not sure. I want to get there early so I know I’m there and I have time to get adjusted before the movie.”
“My thoughts exactly. So I rented a jet and thought I’d call you and see if you wanted to tag along.”
“Wow…really?” Jill watched me, questions in her eyes. “Arianna won’t mind?”
“She’s not coming.”
“Oh…Um, yeah, I’d love to.”
“Brilliant. I had wanted to chat with you anyway.”
“Should I be nervous?”
He chuckled. “I’ll see you bright and early.”
“Wait! What’s early?”
“How does seven sound?”
“Seven sounds just fine when my ride comes to the door with coffee.”
This time he laughed. “Does it now? Cream and sugar?”
“Is there any other way to take it?”
“None that I know of. Sleep well darling. It’s going to be a long day tomorrow.”
“You too…bye.” Flipping my phone shut, I squealed, stomping my feet on the floor. “Oh my goodness!” I shoved my phone back in my purse, and Jill grinned at me, still chewing. “What’s going on?”
I took a deep breath and smoothed my hair, trying to regain my composure. “Orlando asked me if I would fly to the premier with him tomorrow…on a private jet!” I squealed and stomped my feet again. “Calm down,” she laughed. “You’re making a scene.”
I looked around and, indeed, people were looking over at us. “Sorry,” I apologized to everyone, a sheepish smile on my face. I turned back to Jill. “Hurry up and eat. I have to get home and decide what to wear.”
“I thought you already knew what you were going to wear?”
“For the premier, yes, but now I have to find something for the plane!” She rolled her eyes at me, but still smiled. I batted my eyes innocently and stood. “I’ll get the check.”
yeah, I'll fix that. all I said was s.p.o.o.n o.O
Every thing I had brought with me for clothing was strewn about the floor. I looked at myself in the mirror in a short, black and white pleated skirt, a black belt, white sleeveless shirt with a black jacket, black fishnet stockings, and knee high black boots. It was the fifth time I had tried this same outfit on. This time, as both my reflection and I yawned, I decided that this was the outfit for sure. But what about my hair? I looked at the clock…already midnight. Where had the time gone? I yawned again and sat on the edge of my bed. Falling down on the pillow, I decided to rest my eyes, just for a moment. Then I would get up and figure out my hair and makeup…maybe even clean up all my clothes. I just needed to close my eyes…for a moment…
“Hello?” I groaned and rolled over, pulling the blanket up over my head. “Keira? Love, are you here?”
“Go away,” I yelled. “I’m sleeping.” Orlando looked in my room, a perplexed expression on his face. “What happened in here?”
“Go away,” I whined. He came close to my bed and crouched down, pulling the blanket down. He tilted his head, smiling. “Do you know what time it is?”
I peeked at him though the hair that covered my face. “No, and I don’t care.”
He pushed my hair from my face, his thumb gently stroking my cheek. “Darling, it’s six forty-five.” He held up a Styrofoam cup. “And I brought coffee, as promised.”
I sat up, throwing the covers from my bed. “It’s what time?” I must have fallen asleep. I still had on the outfit I was supposed to wear for the jet ride. Orlando looked me over, his brows coming together. “Don’t ask, “ I exclaimed. I jumped to the floor, only to have the heel of my boot get caught in the blanket and send me flying. Orlando tried to catch me, but only ended up grabbing my arm, and spilling my coffee all over himself. I landed on my face on the carpet, my arm feeling yanked out of its socket. I felt hot liquid drip onto my neck. “Hot!” I looked up to see Orlando dancing around the room, trying to pull his black t-shirt off. “Hot!” I felt tears well in my eyes and wanted to sink into the floor. “I can’t feel my arm!” I cried. “I can’t feel my chest!” I heard the sodden shirt hit the floor beside me, and I started to cry. I felt so ridiculous as it was, crying wouldn’t to a thing to make me feel any worse, or any better. “Oh…oh, Keira. Don’t cry, love. Are you alright?”
“No,” I wailed, curling the arm I could still feel around my head, sniffling. “I’m sorry, I tried to help you…” “Well you didn’t!” I looked up at him, catching my breath. He stood before me, shirtless, with nothing but concern for me on his face. Suddenly, he looked like he wanted to laugh. “What is so funny?!”
He bit his lip. “Do you have a compact?”
“On the nightstand.”
He grabbed it and flipped it open. Getting on his knees, he showed me the mirror. Sleep and tears had caused my makeup to smudge and run all over my face. I looked dreadful! I dropped my head back down. “Please just shoot me now.”
“I’m sorry, I can’t hear you.”
Looking up, I growled. “I said shoot me!” He left the room, laughing. “What now!” Coming back in, he looked at the carpet beneath me. I looked too, seeing two circles where my eye makeup had smudged and my lipstick. It looked like a face in the floor. This made me howl in tears. “Keira, come here.” He helped me stand, then held me tight to him, stroking my hair. “Shh,” he whispered gently in my ear. “Did I really hurt you that bad?”
“No,” I sniffled. My eyes roamed over the muscles of his chest. “Are you alright?” I looked up into his eyes and he nodded. “I’m more concerned about you.”
Pulling away from him, I sat heavily on the bed. “I’m fine. Just embarrassed.”
He sat beside me. “You have nothing to be embarrassed about, love.” Glancing at the clock he frowned. “But you do need to get cleaned up so we can go.” I sniffled again and nodded. Tenderly, he tucked my hair behind my ear. “Go on, and I’ll go get you another cup of coffee.”
“Thank you.” On impulse, I kissed his cheek. “You’re too good to me.” I grabbed some random clothes and disappeared into the bathroom.

yeah, this is one of my favs too. That and my as-yet-halfway-written-musical-sequence for Hari.
She wouldn’t look at me the entire ride to the airport. Once we were in the car, she put her sunglasses on, pulled the ball cap down low over her face, and sipped her coffee. If I said anything to her, she would either nod, shake her head, or shrug. Needless to say, it was a very silent ride. When we got to the airport, it was a different story. She pulled her suitcase from the trunk of the car and I pulled out a simple backpack. We looked at each others bags and grinned. “What have you got in there? Your entire wardrobe?”
She stuck her nose in the air. “I have to be prepared in case I need to change for any reason.” Glancing at my bag but still keeping her prissy attitude, she said, “And you? What have you got in there? A change of socks and a mirror?”
“No!”
She smirked as she walked toward the jet. “Ah yes. We mustn’t forget the gel for your hair.” I cast her a look and she screamed and laughed, running as fast as she could, wheeling her luggage behind her as I chased her. As I caught up to her, she let go of her luggage and made a mad dash for the open door of the jet. I jumped over the fallen luggage and made it inside in time to see her lock herself in the bathroom. “I seem to have misplaced my luggage,” she called out. “Would you be a dear and run and fetch it for me?”
“Run and fetch it for you?” I scoffed. “Is there anything else your majesty wishes her humble servant to…fetch…for her?”
“No. That is all.”
Shaking my head, I walked down the few steps to go get her luggage. I wheeled it back with me and set it outside the door to the bathroom. “There you are, Queen Kiki.”
She opened the door a crack so I could see one brown eye. “You do not have my permission to call me that.”
I leaned against the wall and crossed my arms. “I need permission now, do I?”
“Yes.” She shut the door again. “And did Jill ask your permission before she started calling you that?”
Opening the door again, she stuck her head out. “You and I both know that Jill doesn’t need permission to do anything. She just goes ahead and does it.”
“Indeed.”
“Mr. Bloom, we will be leaving five minutes.”
Keira smirked, a smugness in her eyes at the announcement over the jets intercom. “Well then, Mr. Bloom, we should find our seats.”
“Oh, after you Miss Knightly.”
“Oh no, I couldn’t go before you. After all, you are the bigger star.”
I shook my head. “I really must insist, Keira Jane, after you.”
She wrinkled her nose. “What did you call me?”
Laughing, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her out of the tiny bathroom. “I don’t know, it just came out.” We sat across from each other and buckled as the jet engine roared to life. I tried not to smile and I saw Keira grip the arm of her seat so tightly that her knuckles turned white. It wasn’t long before we began to move and she sat back, breathing like she was in labor. This time, I couldn’t hold in my laughter. “What’s wrong, love? Don’t like flying?”
“I don’t mind flying,” she told me between breaths. “It’s the take off I have problems with.” We stayed silent until we were in the air and she began to breathe normally again. “You mentioned something about wanting to chat?” she reminded me. “What about?”
I rested my chin in my hand. “Do you remember anything from the other night, after dinner.”
She looked down in thought. “I remember dinner, and laughing, and staring out at the night life, and then…” She furrowed her brow. “Now that I think of it, I don’t remember anything after that. I don’t even know how I got back to my room.”
“I brought you,” I supplied quietly. “Oh.”
“You don’t remember anything?”
“No.” I nodded, and the conversation ended. If she didn’t remember telling me about her feelings for me, then I wasn’t about to embarrass her by bringing it up. From then on out we chatted and joked and played cards for awhile. Halfway to our destination, she curled up in her seat and fell asleep. As I watched her breathe in and out, I pulled a sketch book out of my back pack, a pencil and an eraser. I flipped open to a blank page and began to draw her. When we landed, a limo awaited us outside. Keira looked at me with sleepy eyes. “We’re here already?”
“Yes, love. Ready?”
“Mm hmm.” As we descended the few stairs, cameras flashed all around us, reporters shouting questions out to us. We waved and smiled politely. Then Keira got into the limo with me close behind. “Hello children.”
I grinned as I sat down. “Johnny! Good to see you!”
“You as well, mate.” He leaned forward to kiss Keira’s cheek. “How are you, Keira darling?”
“Wonderful,” She responded with a smile. “Hope you are both well rested, because they have our day planned out for us.”
no, it's way worse than Chicago...I don't even know if I can post it, I just can't believe how terrible it is....oh, and I apologize for Johnny, he's stuck in Captain Jack mode for me or something.
“Ah, let’s see…there will be a parade at three. That should only last about an hour.” The man before us handed us each a piece of paper outlining the days activities for us. “Then you need to be at the theater by seven at the latest, and I do mean latest.”
“And for those of us who wish to be fashionably late. When do we arrive, mate?” The man cast a cold look at Johnny and Orlando and I bit our tongues to stop ourselves from laughing. “I suppose there’ll be none of that, then,” Johnny concluded. “Well,” the man said, glancing at the watch on his wrist. “It’s almost eleven, so do whatever it is you have to do and be back here by three.” With a quick smile, he was off, leaving the three of us standing outside a closed movie lot. Johnny read his paper over, then looked at the two of us. “I’m not riding on some bleedin’ float.”
Orlando laughed and clapped him on the back. “Luckily, you don’t have to.” He showed Johnny his paper, pointing out where it mentioned the parade. “ Just me and Keira.”
I nodded and Johnny shrugged. “Well what do you want to do now, then?” he asked. “Well I don’t know about you two, but I’m starved.” They both looked at me. “What?”
“For a moment,” Orlando grinned. “I thought I had brought Jill with me, not Keira Jane.”
Johnny looked confused. “Who’s Keira Jane? Oh wait! She was that extra with the big…” He held his hands to his chest. “Big um…eyes! Yes! The big eyes. Right?”
Orlando and I laughed and I shook my head. “Come on.” I linked one arm with Johnny and the other with Orlando. “Let’s go eat.”
We were lucky enough to find a secluded table at a nearby “Hard Rock Café”. They had just opened and we managed to get there before there were many customers. I situated myself between Johnny and Orlando at the rounded table. Our waitress was a pretty young blonde that looked like she should still be in school. She giggled a lot and smiled, openly flirting with Orlando and Johnny. They, of course, were eating it up, pretending to be humble and bashful. When she brought our drinks over, she was ready to take our orders. “Well, I was thinking about the vegetarian chili in the bread bowl,” Orlando mumbled. “But I was wondering how hot it was.”
“Not as hot as you are,” she said, batting her blue eyes. “It’s actually quite tame.”
He grinned at her. “I’ll take that then, love.”
“Sure thing, darling.” I opened my mouth to give her my order but she looked directly at Johnny. “And what will you have?”
“I ate this morning, so I’m not very hungry…” His eyes scanned the menu. Without looking up, he said, “Honey Bun.”
“Yes, sugar?”
Grinning, he looked up. “That’s very funny.” She wrote down his order, finally looking at me. I smiled politely. “I would like a double bacon cheeseburger, extra bacon. That comes with chips, right?”
She looked at me like I was from another planet. “No. It comes with French fries.”
“That’s what we Brits call chips, love,” Orlando told her with a smile. “Oh,” she giggled, seductively chewing on her pen cap. “Yes,” I snapped, pulling her attention back to me. “I’ll take some vinegar with that too.” She wrinkled her nose as she wrote it down. “Alright,” she said. “I’ll bring your orders out as soon as they’re ready.” She winked at Johnny then walked away, swaying her hips. Both of them stared after her and I reached up to close both of their mouths, then slap their shoulders. “You two should be ashamed of yourselves!” I chided. “Johnny, you’re married! And Orlando, need I remind you that you are engaged?”
Johnny looked at Orlando. “I don’t see your girl around here anywhere. Do you, mate?”
Orlando shook his head. “Not at all. I don’t see your wife, either.”
I shook my head. “I can’t believe you two!” Johnny simply grinned and sat back in the booth, putting his hands behind his head.

*falls over laughing*
“Oh, Ari. You look so beautiful! That is definitely the one. No doubt about it.”
I stood on a platform facing the three way mirrors. The dress I wore was snow white and just brushed the floor when I moved. It had thin straps and no sleeves, and crystal vines that covered the bodice, some of them made to look like they were reaching down the skirt of the dress. I turned this way and that, looking at the dress from every angle I could. It formed to me from my chest to the waist and then flared out ever so slightly. I put my hands on my stomach and met my own eyes in the mirror. Blowing a thin stream of air between my lips, I saw the attendant come up behind me with a smile. “That dress seems to have been made for you.” I smiled, unable to speak. Sabrina smiled at me in the mirror. “It’s simply gorgeous, Ari. The perfect wedding dress.” Again I nodded. This made her frown. “Are you alright hun?”
I looked down at my hands and saw them shaking. When I looked back up, my face seemed to have lost all of its color. “Being in this dress,” I said slowly. “It makes it so much more real that I’m getting married.” I swayed a bit and Sabrina was right there to catch me. “Maybe you need to sit down for a few minutes.” She led me to a chair and sat me down, looking at the attendant. “Can she get some water?”
“Of course.”
She hurried off and Sabrina crouched in front of me, worry in her eyes. “Are you okay babe?”
I nodded. “I just got a little dizzy. Sorry.”
“You don’t have to apologize,” she told me. The attendant came back and handed me a bottle of water. “I’m just worried about you is all.”
I felt tears sting my eyes and I looked at my lap. “I…” I couldn’t speak. My voice was too shaky and I couldn’t cry in front of a stranger.
Sabrina knew this and she smiled up at the attendant, taking my hand. “Could you just give us a second?” The woman nodded, giving her a knowing smile and leaving the bottle of water with us. Sabrina looked back at me. “Talk to me Ari. What’s going on?”’ “I don’t know,” I confessed, my tears suddenly falling like rain. “Something just doesn’t feel right.”
She pulled a few tissues from her purse and handed them to me. “Is it the dress? Baby, if you don’t like the dress, then we’ll try on some different ones. Or we can go to a different store, or…” “It’s not the dress, “ I sobbed, dropping my hands in my lap with exasperation. “It’s me. Something doesn’t feel right with me.” Sabrina tilted her head and I tried to get a deep breath. “I don’t know if I’m ready to get married, Sabrina. I’m really, really scared.”
“Oh, honey.” She got up and wrapped her arms around me. “I was scared before I married Paul. I cried myself to sleep every night the week before the wedding. But I love him so much, I knew it was still the right thing to do. And we’re great now. It gets so much better when the stress of the wedding is over. I promise.”
I broke out of her embrace and went to stand before the mirror again. My eyes were red and puffy but I didn’t care. “I hate having people look at me.”
Sabrina stood, looking perplexed. “Okay.”
“And I don’t like to be judged by the way I style my hair, or what dress I chose to wear, or have thousands of people informed if I gain three pounds, or have people wonder if I’m anorexic because I lose a few.”
“I’m not following you here.”
I turned to look down at her. “Sabrina…I’m marrying Orlando Bloom!”
“I know!” she exclaimed, clasping my hands. But her face fell, realizing what I was saying. “And he is in the spotlight all the time.” I nodded. “But…you love each other.”
“I just need more time.” I gathered my skirt in my hands and fled to the dressing room. As I changed, I called out to Sabrina. “Can I use your phone?” I heard her soft footsteps on the carpet and she handed it to me under the door. Flipping it open, I dialed and then held it between my shoulder and my head as I finished dressing. “Hello?”
“Oh Ari! Don’t tell him over the phone!’ Sabrina groaned. “Hi Jeremy. It’s Arianna.”
“Oh good,” she breathed, walking away. “Oh hey Ari. What’s wrong? You sound like you’ve been crying.”
“I have,” I openly stated. “Can you come pick me up at the dress shop? Sabrina has to go get Alexis before heading home and I really just want to go.”
“Sure thing doll. I’ll be right there.”
( it is really pretty. My friend Jess just got married in it ;D )
After lunch, Johnny left to make sure his wife Vanessa was settling in alright at the hotel, and also call home to check on his children. Orlando and I strolled around Universal Studios, taking in the scenery and stopping to chat with fans and sign autographs. By the time it was two, we decided to head back to get ready for the parade. Since we had special clearance, we decided to cut through the staff areas of the park. We still had an hour to kill so we walked slowly, taking our time. I spotted a hat that was Minnie Mouse ears and ducked into the store to get them. When I came back out, Orlando snickered at my purchase. “You going to wear those in the parade?” he asked me. “No, they’re for Jill.”
“Oh.” He shoved his hands in his pockets and we continued walking. “You and my sister got on well from day one, didn’t you?”
“Yeah,” I smiled. “I love her to death.” Orlando looked down and I frowned. “You still don’t like the idea of us being as close as we are?”
“No, it’s not that,” he assured me. “It’s just…I wish Jill got on as well with Arriana.” I said nothing. “She’s close with Jeremy I think, but…” “It would be good if she were friends with Jill too,” I finished for him. He nodded solemnly. “How is it she and Jeremy are such good mates?”
Orlando shrugged. “They have a lot in common, personality wise.”
“Well that’s good,” I offered. “At least she’s got Jeremy.”
“She’s not the only one,” he quietly retorted. My brows came together. “Excuse me?”
“Nothing.”
“Oh no.” I stepped before him, blocking his path. I crossed my arms in determination. “What did you mean by ‘she’s not the only one’?”
He sighed and stepped around me like I wasn’t even there, continuing in his slow gait. “Jeremy came to see me the other day and…you know what? I shouldn’t even be telling you this.”
“Yes you should!” I exclaimed, running to catch up with him. “Orlando, you can’t start to tell a girl something and then change your mind. It’s not fair!”
“Aright,” he folded. Grumbling, he ran a hand through his unruly curls. “He came over the other day and asked me if he thought it would be alright for him to ask you out.”
I blinked. “Out? Out where?” Orlando looked at me like I was dumb. “Out on a date?” He nodded, returning his gaze to the ground. “Like a real date?”
“No, a fake one,” he said with sarcasm. “Yes, a real date.”
“Oh.”
We walked on a for a few more moments in silence, then Orlando turned to me, almost looking angry. “Oh? Oh? That’s all you have to say is oh? I just told you my brother is interested in you Keira.”
“I know,” I said softly, not looking at him. “Well what do you want me to say?” I didn’t mean for the question to be as loud as it was, but I was feeling put on the spot. “I don’t know,” he grumbled. “Are you interested in him?”
Oh, how I wish I could be anywhere else having any other conversation than this one. “I don’t know, Orlando. I never thought of Jeremy in that sort of way.”
“Why do you sound offended?”
I suddenly felt cold despite the pressing heat of the day. “I just don’t feel comfortable talking to you about it, alright?” I walked on ahead, leaving him there to watch me disappear around a corner.

I always considered myself to be a smart person. Sure I had trouble in school because of the dyslexia, but I was still intelligent. But, for all the smarts I thought I once had, I cannot figure out women to save my life. I watched helplessly as Keira stalked away from me. It was obvious that I had made her upset somehow, but…how? Did she not want to tell me how she felt about Jeremy because she was afraid of hurting my feelings? Or perhaps she was afraid of my reaction if she said she wasn’t interested in him. “You look like someone just ran over your dog, mate.” Johnny came up behind me and clapped me on the shoulder. When I didn’t say anything, he followed my line of vision. “What are we looking at?”
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Sure thing.”
“You’ve been married for awhile now.” He nodded. “Have you ever figured your wife out?”
He stared at me blankly for a few moments before answering. “I wasn’t aware that understanding was a requirement of marriage.” I threw up my hands and walked away. The float we rode on was a giant pirate ship, something we should have expected. Neither Keira or I said a word to each other the entire hour we were on the float. And as soon as the parade was over, she had disappeared before I had a chance to say anything to her. Exasperated and slightly annoyed with myself, I took a ride to the hotel I was going to spend the night in. After checking in, I rode the lift to the top floor, finding my suite to be the last door at the end of the hall. It turned out to be quite extravagant with it’s large rooms and luxurious furniture. Tossing my bag to the side, I sank into one of the couches and rested my head in my hands. A knock at the door forced me to my feet. I opened it to find a man with a platter full of silver domed dishes. “Room service,” he said cheerfully. “I’m sorry,” I told him. “There must be some sort of mistake. I didn’t order room service.”
His face fell and he checked the slip in his hand. When he looked back at me, his cheerful demeanor returned. “My apologies, Sir. I have the wrong room.”
“Quite alright,” I said. But I doubt he had heard me, he had shuffled off so fast. Out of curiosity, I stood in my open doorway to watch him stop two door down. “Room service!” After a moment, the door opened and he was let in. I waited for a bit and when he didn’t make a quick exit, I turned to go back into my room. “Thank you, Ms. Knightly.”
I stopped and glanced out in the hall. The waiter hurried away and that same door closed. I smirked. Keira and I were in the same hotel. On the same floor, no less. Oh how fate had a way of being cruelly kind from time to time.

Jeremy pulled up to the curb outside the dress shop and hopped out. “Call me later,” Sabrina told me, giving me a quick hug. Pulling away, she looked at Jeremy. “Take care of my girl.” He nodded and she left to go find her own car. Jeremy turned his soft brown eyes to me.
“Hey, what’s going on?”
I shrugged and looked down, not trusting my voice enough to speak. I’m sure my trembling bottom lip spoke volumes as it was. “Hey, come here.” I fell into his open arms. Fresh tears fell as I buried my face in his chest. “Shh,” he soothed, dropping his head so his lips were close to my ear. “It’s alright,” he whispered. I felt his strong arms wrap tighter around me and I only sobbed more. The attendant from the dress shop came out and locked the door. Already closing time, she cast a smile to Jeremy as she walked by. I’m sure she thought he was my fiancé, but I didn’t care to set her straight. I sniffled. “Hey. You’re not blowing your nose on my shirt, are you?”
“No,” I said through my tears. I stood up straight and dried my face with the sleeve of my sweater. “Aw man,” Jeremy said, looking down at the large wet spot in the middle of his black t-shirt. “Now I’m gonna have to change.” Despite myself, I giggled. Jeremy grinned. “Come on beautiful. Let’s get you home.” He opened my door for me and then drove me home. Once there, I ran upstairs to change and clean my face, and Jeremy waited in the living room. I changed into a pink sweat suit and braided my long blonde hair into two pigtails that draped over my shoulders. When I went back downstairs, Jeremy had built a fire in the fireplace but he was no where to be seen. “Where’d you go?”
“Kitchen.”
I walked in to find him at the stove, stirring something in a pot. I sniffed the air. Chocolate. I stood beside him, the top of my head just even with his shoulder. I peered down at the brown liquid he was stirring. “Whatcha making?”
“Comfort food.” I smiled and kissed his shoulder. “What was that for?”
“For being wonderful,” I told him. He smiled, a slight blush coloring his cheeks. “Go get warm by the fire. I’ll be right in.” I did as instructed, settling down on the raised stone hearth. The fire crackled and blew its warmth out to me through the black iron gate before it. I lost myself in the orange and gold flames, watching the colors dance with each other, hypnotizing me into a state of numbness. “Here you go.”
Blinking, I looked up. Jeremy held out a steaming mug to me. I smiled and took it. “What’s this?”
“Take a sip.” he sat down and watched me with a small smile. “Go ahead, It won’t kill you. Well, unless the milk in your fridge was bad. Then it might.”
I smirked, then took a small sip. Chocolate and mint filled my mouth and heat caressed my throat as I swallowed. “Oh my goodness…” I took another sip. “Oh Jeremy. This is so good!” He grinned as he sipped from his own mug. “How did you learn to make this?”
“My mom.” He shrugged, setting his mug down. “I used to spend hours watching her in the kitchen, never following a recipe. She used to just grab things and throw them into her mix, half the time working from memory, half the time making it up as she went. And it always turned out good.”
I nodded. “Yeah, your mom is an awesome cook.”
“That she is,” he agreed. “So you inherited her love of food.”
“Yep.” He took a deep breath, his gaze going to the snapping fire. “I’m not as good as she is, but I do alright.”
“You do wonderfully.” I took another sip, savoring the taste. “This is just what I needed.”
“See? Comfort food.” He smiled briefly, then shifted his position so he was more comfortable. “Now, care to tell me what the tears were all about?”
